DESCRIPTION:

1. The Town Prosecutor prosecutes violations of the Town Code before the Town’s Justice Court. 
2. Duties and Responsibilities:  Represent the People of the State of New York in the prosecution of all town code violations, including but not limited to: scheduling and coordinating officer appearances; reviewing all town code cases presented for purposes of prosecution; determining technical compliance with town code and other state statutes; writing complaints; drafting, filing and arguing motions when appropriate; prosecuting defendants at trials; and making recommendations to the Court for alternatives to prosecution where appropriate.  Timely pursuit of disposition of town code cases in advance of Court date.     
3. The Yorktown Town Justice Court hears town code violations twice a month, on the first Tuesday and third Thursday of every month at 6 pm.  Conferences may begin earlier. Venue is occasionally changed to another town’s justice court. Each court date requires approximately two hours of time in court plus one hour of preparation; this is not a guarantee of such hours; the total number of hours will vary from month to month.
