On January 31, 2009, the WBASNY Board of Directors met at New York Life Insurance Company in New York City.  Here are the highlights of that meeting. 

  • Hon. Ann Pfau addressed the WBASNY Directors to provide a State of the Judiciary.
  • WBASNY has increased its visibility with press releases and contact with the Governor and NYS Attorney General’s Office.
  • WBASNY continues to expand member benefits.  Recent efforts include review of proposals by Simply Deposit, Deposition Room, and insurance coverage.
  • WBASNY’s renewal for CLE provider status was approved.  WBASNY certified 60 CLE programs in the year ending 2008.
  • We have received special consulting status to the UN which will formally be voted on in June.  An ECOSOC application has been completed and forwarded to the UN.
  • A joint report for the fundraising, finance, and long range planning committees was reviewed and discussed.
  • A motion that the per capita charge to be paid for Class 1, 2, and 3 members be increased to $55.00 effective with the fiscal year commencing June 1, 2009 was passed.
  • Convention 2009 will take place at Niagara on the Lake in Canada.
  • Nominations reported on the interviews of candidates for office for WBASNY 2009-2010.

  • Judiciary/Courts committee is working to review guidelines.
  • Legislative committee provided an update that they are continuing to work on issues involving no-fault, same sex marriage, and reproductive rights.
  • A resolution passed concerning reinstatement of the NYS budget for legal services.
