On November 14, 2009, the WBASNY Board of Directors met at New York State Nurses Association in Latham, New York. Here are the highlights of that meeting.
- Approximately forty WBASNY members traveled to Seneca Falls in October to celebrate Karen DeCrow’s induction into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.
- International Women’s Rights Committee Co-Chair Fay Parris is scheduled to attend the International Criminal Court’s Eighth Session of the Assembly of States Parties at The Hague, The Netherlands, in November.
- The Education Committee will offer a continuing legal education (CLE) program entitled “Recent Developments: General & Special Education Law” in the Finger Lakes/Ithaca region on November 20, following the successful presentation of the program in Westchester County.
- Justice Sondra Miller was voted as WBASNY’s nominee for the ABA’s 2010 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Awards.
- Health Issues Committee Co-Chair Andrea Phoenix reported that the committee is planning to offer a CLE program about advance care planning in an upstate location and a downstate location.
- The Board of Directors resolved to make civil legal services funding a legislative priority.
- The Board voted to support New York State Bill A08393/S5696, which relates to orders of protection.
- The Board voted to oppose New York State Bill S6125, which relates to enhanced penalties for driving while impaired.
- WBASNY is planning to host an event to commemorate its thirtieth anniversary. The event, which is planned to take place in February 2010, will provide an opportunity to award the Doris Hoffman Medal to Lenore Kramer.
