Allyship at Work Training

Wednesday, May 25, 2022
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. (EDT) | via Zoom

Register online to attend

Please join the UB Law Alumni Association and the LAA GOLD Group when Dr. Ursuline Bankhead, Psychology Chief/Assistant Chief of Mental Health, and Chair of the Health Equity Committee for the VA Western New York Healthcare System, leads us in a discussion of “Allyship at Work.”

“Allyship” has been used in support of the LGBTQ population, various racial and ethnic groups, women, and other marginalized populations, especially after the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the subsequent protests. But what does it really mean?

In a one-hour Zoom program, Dr. Bankhead will help us decipher and explore what allyship is — and isn’t. Is it a declaration of support? Is protesting a form of allyship? Or, perhaps, reading books by noted authors?

We will also examine the question of who is allyship for — the individual ally, the larger group, or both? The hope is that you will come away with a framework for better understanding allyship and your role in the allyship narrative.

This event is free and open to alumni, faculty, students, and the legal community. To attend, please register online. A Zoom link will be sent in your registration confirmation email.
