SUMMARY:The Importance of Engaging People with Lived Experience in Planning for Systems Change
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY\, JUNE 22\, 2022: 12:30-2:00 PM\nTHE IMPORTANCE OF ENGAGING PEOPLE WITH LIVED EXPERIENCE IN PLANNING FOR SYSTEMS CHANGE\nPresenters \nZoe Livengood\, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) \nMark Funkhouser\, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) \nNancy Taylor\, Certified Addiction Recovery Coach \nDorothy Carlson\, Peer Advocate \nRuth Riddick\, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of NYS (ASAP) Community Outreach \nRalph Wolf\, Esq.\, Office for Justice Initiatives \nAs child welfare professionals\, we develop policy/procedures and make decisions about system improvements\, all of which affect the children and families we serve. However\, these policies and decisions are often made without the input of people who have to navigate the systems we create. This can be especially true for children and families impacted by the current opioid crisis\, especially those living in rural areas. This webinar will highlight several strategies to engage and work with people with lived experiences so that their voices are included as we seek to improve outcomes in the child welfare system.
