U.S. Supreme Court Update: The Changing Landscape of Civil and Constitutional Rights

The docket and decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2024 term reflects the rapidly changing landscape of civil and constitutional rights. More of the same is anticipated on the horizon next term. This program will start with an explanation of the Court’s shadow docket and proliferation of per curiam decisions. We will discuss the impact of presidential executive orders and agency actions on recent changes in the interpretation, implementation and enforcement of federal civil law laws. The program will examine some notable cases from the 2024 term, and cases anticipated during the 2025 term, impacting important civil and constitutional rights such as birthright citizenship, religious freedom, LGBTQIA+ and parental rights.
