New York, NY, Thursday, August 28, 2025 – The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (“WBASNY”) expresses dismay at the United States Supreme Court’s emergency “shadow” docket ruling on August 21, 2025, in National Institutes of Health v. American Public Health Association, allowing $783 million in cuts to NIH medical research grants to go forward. This action, related to current Executive Orders removing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within government, affects medical research benefitting women and children, stifles Covid-19 related research, and has a disproportionate impact on medical issues involving minority and LGBTQIA+ populations. Termination of this funding, even on a temporary basis, can irreparably disrupt the progress of significant medical research affecting public health.
