CLE- Revictimizing the Victim: The Child Sex Crimes Victims Protection Act

December 1 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Sex Trafficking Committee presents

Revictimizing the Victim: The Child Sex Crimes Victims Protection Act

December 1, 2025

6:00 – 7:00 pm

Survivors of human trafficking in New York and across the United States are too often criminalized for actions directly tied to their victimization. Cases such as those of Sara Kruzan, Pieper Lewis, Chrystul Kizer and Cyntoia Brown illustrate this recurring problem: child sex trafficking survivors receiving severe sentences for actions taken against their abusers. This 90-minute CLE will provide critical legal and contextual grounding for understanding why reform is necessary. The discussion will focus on proposed statutory reforms – most notably the Child Sex Crime Victims Protection Act – as well as additional legislative initiatives in New York State aimed at ensuring trafficking survivors are treated as victims rather than offenders, and at preventing trafficking through more effective protections.
