Behind the Bench: Breaking Down the Bars to Asylum

Before an asylum claim can be decided on the merits, respondents may encounter a range of statutory and procedural bars. Presented by former Immigration Judges, this session draws on their perspective from the bench to examine the bars to Asylum, Withholding of Removal and Protection under the Convention Against Torture. Participants will learn how these bars arise in practice and will gain practical strategies for identifying and addressing them in removal defense.
