Highlights of Presidency:
Barbara Kay Friedman, had the distinct honor of serving as President of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) from 1985 to 1986. During her presidency, she championed the cause of gender equality within the legal profession, focusing on closing the gap between women attorneys and their male counterparts. She was deeply aware of the slow progress women faced in attaining leadership and partnership roles and was a tireless advocate for change.
Barbara believed strongly in WBASNY’s power to amplify the voices of women attorneys—not only in professional circles but also within the legislative arena. She recognized the organization as a vital resource for networking, mentorship, and providing seminars and programs that supported the advancement of women in law.
In her 1985 installation speech, Barbara spoke with heartfelt gratitude about the privilege of leading WBASNY. She paid tribute to the organization’s visionary founder, Joan Ellenbogen, for her pioneering spirit, and to Marge Karowe, for advancing that vision with energy, charm, and unwavering determination.
Barbara’s leadership left a lasting impact on WBASNY and the legal community at large.
