Highlights of Presidency:
I was president at a very exciting time. It was the turn of the century in the year 2000 and all things were new and were getting better for the Women’s Bar Association. Our membership was in an all-time high. We were meeting with the Office of Court Administration on a regular basis and involved in a lot of the decision-making in the various courthouses as to the facilities and the new buildings. We continued to press for the inclusion of diverse and women candidates for judicial office and appointments. We did a lot of judicial screening and were considered an important and respected part of the process. Our recommendations for various awards given by the Legal community were accepted. The Chief Judge of New York State at the time Hon. Judith S. Kaye received the NYSBA Margaret Brent Award as did Sheila Birnbaum which we supported. We moved an admission to the United States Supreme Court and met with Ruth Bader Ginsburg who spent a great deal of time with us conversing and taking pictures She was more than gracious to these women lawyers from New York. Let me close by saying something we all knew. We could walk into any courtroom in the State of New York and find a friend, a fellow WBASNY member and, furthermore, I’ll close by saying I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
