June 23, 2022 marks the Fiftieth Anniversary of Title IX, the groundbreaking Federal Civil Rights Law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in the context of education. Originally enacted with the intention of correcting imbalances between women’s and men’s sports, it has survived many challenges throughout the years, and significantly expanded its reach. This presentation will provide a background to Title IX, analyze its evolution through the Obama and Trump Administrations, and discuss the current crossroads that Title IX faces under Biden’s presidency, including new developing legislation surrounding transgender athletes.
