Highlights of Presidency:
I served as President of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York from 1990 to 1991. During my term, Mandatory Continuing Legal Education programs had commenced in New York State. Under my leadership a Continuing Legal Education committee was formed and co-chairs Miriam Cyrulnik and Audrey Sager put together WBASNY’s first CLE on the Uniform Child Support Act and Forensic Experts in Custody Cases. By November of the year, WBASNY produced 16 Legislative position papers. Also, during my term, our vice president, Susan Bender reported on a conference on gender bias in the courts in Albany. She noted that of the 70 people present at the conference, approximately 30 were members of WBASNY. There was some concern that the bias was becoming more subtle within the court system. The Nassau chapter was working hard on a Nassau County golf club that was discriminating against women and their work was picked up by the NY Law Journal to help address the discrimination. WBASNY also advised the NYSBA we had concerns about the lack of women as chairs of committees and as CLE speakers within their organization. It was a busy year working with a focus on gender equality and becoming a CLE leader.
